The boxes we put ourselves in
We all have an image of who we think we are supposed to be? If you're anything like me, this image wasn't only created by you. Unfortunately, who we really are or who we want to be may not fit into this picture of who we think we should be. Not sure if that make sense, but stick with me here. Our friends, family, significant others, and other people in our lives shape this along with us. During different seasons, we may allow them to draw this picture more than we allow ourself to. This isn't always a bad thing. Sometimes we need the guidance during a tough season when we can't see clearly.
But, what happens when you realize that the person inside you just isn't that person? Maybe you have tried so hard to be what everyone else wants or needs you to be instead who you want to be or who you truly are. What happens when you sacrifice yourself to the point you feel like you have nothing left to give?
It is very common to be inside this little box and feel like you are trapped. It can be exhausting. There are many times in my life when I have felt like I was in this box. I did it to myself and let others tell me what I could or couldn't do. I wanted to scream, but no one could hear me. This little voice inside me just didn't have the strength to be loud.
It has taken a long time and a lot of work. I am probably more true to myself than I have ever been. I still have a long ways to go, but I am moving forward. If you feel like you are in this box that has you so trapped, the first thing to do is recognize that you don't have to stay in it. Breaking out isn't going to be easy, but that box doesn't have to be your identity.
Getting out of that box requires making a choice. You have to decide that you want to get out and that you are willing to do what it takes to break free. It can be scary, but it is so worth it. Living a life without limits is absolutely amazing. I have accomplished and will continue to accomplish more than I ever would have in my safe little box.
If you are struggling to get out of that box, please ask for help. I will walk this journey with you!
